HEALTH & SAFETY

Assuring the safety of Yonkers’ employees, clients, subcontractors, and the community are paramount. Yonkers’ Safety Program is built on a pro-active approach that incorporates training, oversight and reinforcement. Its aim is to facilitate performing construction operations without harm to people directly or indirectly involved with construction activities.

A core value at Yonkers, Health & Safety is embodied in Yonkers’ Code of Conduct. Yonkers believes in identifying and communicating the hazards workers at each jobsite face, and providing workers training for measures to mitigate the hazards so that they can perform their work without injury to themselves or others.

Safety professionals guide and assist the project team with measures to prevent accidents and injuries. Ultimately, safety requires participation by all employees throughout the organization – from management to workers and subcontractors. Oversight and guidance from safety professionals provides reinforcement critical to the Program’s success.

Committed to a goal of zero accidents and injuries, Yonkers regards environmental, health and safety issues as significant performance indicators of a project. Field activities are monitored at all management levels.

SUBCONTRACTORS

All subcontractors working on any Yonkers project are required to sign-on to Yonkers’ Safety Program, comply with all project-specific safety requirements, and provide job-specific hazard analyses for the areas of work they will perform. In addition, subcontractors should be aware of the project’s Owners requirements and be able to comply with them

EQUIPMENT

Operating equipment safely requires operators with a sense for safety, coupled with maintaining the equipment and adhering to measures and guidelines intended to prevent accidents and injuries. Yonkers’ Equipment and Safety departments work together to assure policies and procedures are in place and implemented on projects.
